As part of our ongoing series of interviews, we recently caught up with our Head of Technical Services, Michael Vincent. He’s been with the company for a year now and is well settled into the job, so we thought it was time to find out how things are going.
We last spoke to Mike in July, just a couple of months after he joined SEDO. However, as a quick recap, we should remind you that Mike has known and worked with the business for more than 15 years. This was in his capacity as an engineer with Xerox. SEDO was one of the resellers that Mike dealt with and when Brian McGuinness asked whether he’d be interested in jumping ships, he leapt at the chance. His current role is to install new printers or repair and assist customers in keeping their printers up and running.
One reason Mike was keen to join SEDO is that he felt they were different from other suppliers of wide-format printers. He explains why: “In my experience the SEDO team is dedicated to wide format. They, or should I say we, really care about our customers and we bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table because wide format is our specialist subject.”
While he was working at Xerox, Mike watched SEDO grow from the side lines. “Brian was using Xerox for refurbishments, so I got to know the company. It’s nice to see a family business that succeeded because they were doing things the right way. Joining the company has been an exciting challenge for me and I love it that we’ll go the extra mile for our customers.”
Print is a fast-moving industry going through rapid technology changes, so we’re always curious to find out how people’s perception of print has changed since they started working with it. For Mike that’s been over a career that spans more than two decades. “It’s made me realise over the years that, especially in wide format, there are huge opportunities to do all kinds of printing and the options are almost limitless.”
But life isn’t all work and, naturally for someone involved in print, Mike has his own treasured piece of print. We asked him what it was. “It’s a London landscape that I printed out for a photography student at a show. I fell in love with it straight away and luckily they said I could keep a copy.” Mike’s also fairly sporty when he gets a moment away from disembowelling printers. He coaches his son’s under-12 football team and plays golf and badminton. If that sounds a little too energetic, he also admits to sneaking time on the Xbox – when his kids allow it!
