In a competitive market, you need your printers to outperform the competition and give your clients the best results possible. You need to be able to produce accurate and consistent colours across a range of devices and media. And you don’t want to waste valuable production time making endless manual adjustments until the colour’s just right. This is where printer profiling can come to your rescue.
Profiling: taking the guesswork out of printing
So, what exactly is a printer profile? A printer profile is a bespoke file that sets out how colours should be printed by a specific printer on a particular media to get results that are consistent with the International Color Consortium standards – in other words, it ensures that the colours reproduced are totally accurate to the source material. The profile can take into account how the colour and weight of the paper will affect the final appearance of the ink when it dries, and will make the appropriate adjustments to ensure consistency.
By using printer profiles, you’ll be able to print the same image on different media and get identical results. Corporate colours will remain true across all your devices, resulting in time saved, less wastage and more satisfied clients.
The benefits of profiling
Profiling delivers a range of benefits and is an essential part of the process if you want to print to the highest professional standards.
• Puts an end to trial-and-error printing
• Stops banding in print by selecting the most appropriate pass speed – no more horizontal lines across your prints
• Creates the most accurate colour matches with the source material
• Can ensure that the page isn’t over saturated with ink, saving ink and minimising drying time
• Can be employed to reduce ink levels to lower costs further, though this will affect the colour and quality of the results. This is most useful when printing on banner vinyl and banner mesh that will be viewed from a distance.
• Enables you to get the best results possible from your printer in the most effective and efficient way – no more guesswork
SEDO profiling service
SEDO is happy to offer our clients profiling support on both Caldera and Onyx RIP software. Using an XRite i1Basic Pro 2, one of our trained profilers will create a set of custom profiles to ensure that the colours you print out will be identical to those you see on your monitor. You’ll be able to use the profiles to check colour accuracy, verify soft proofs and print quality, and to capture and manage spot colours.
