Summa cutters are the market leaders when it comes to vinyl roll cutters, and here are six solid reasons why investing in Summa will benefit your business.
• Summa cutters use True Tangential technology
True Tangential heads incorporate motors which control the direction of the blade and allow you to cut through thick or hard substrates with incredible accuracy. Even in materials up to 47 mils thick, you’ll be able to cut at speed without compromising on quality. This True Tangential technology is far superior to drag cutting heads using tangential emulation. This means that they simulate the control of True Tangential technology, but without the motorized control over the blade, they can’t offer the same level of accuracy.
• Repeatability guaranteed
It’s important for a cutter to have the ability to cut accurate dimensions as roll media is passing through. Summa cutters guarantee the best repeatability on the market – 8m on the SummaCut line and 12m on the S Class 2 line. The closest competitors can guarantee only 1.9m of accuracy while the media is being transported.
• Summa’s unique barcode feature
Summa cutters are unique in having an onboard sensor that is able to read barcodes. The barcode enables you to automatically communicate with the software to retrieve the necessary cut data and initiate the cutting. When one job is finished, the barcode sensor will search for the next barcode and get on with the next cutting job. This means that entire rolls of printed graphics can be cut automatically, without user intervention – boosting productivity and saving operator time.
• Summa’s white light technology
The Summa OPOS is a white light sensor that can detect and recognise registration marks on all UV protection films. While other cutters are still using the old infra-red light system, Summa has moved on to white light technology. Because laminates now have built-in UV inhibitors, the old IR sensors encounter difficulty in recognising registration marks. This isn’t a problem with the OPOS sensor, which is also capable of registering other colours beyond black on white – such as dark blue and grey.
• Summa’s unique camera
Summa also offers the possibility of having a camera – OPOS CAM – mounted on the cutter instead of a light sensor. The main advantage of this is speed, as the OPOS CAM system can read registration marks ten times faster than a light sensor. This leads to a substantial boost to productivity, particularly when processing entire rolls. A further advantage of the OPOS CAM is its ability to create a camera profile for challenging media types, such as reflective material. These profiles enable the cutter to register marks on any substrate.
• G-Performance – boosting performance by up to 40%
For Summa S Class 2 cutters, the G-Performance feature can transform your cutter into a lean and mean cutting machine, increasing productivity by up to 40%. Regardless of the size of the cutter or whether it uses tangential or drag knife technology, using G-Performance will increase the speed of your model. It will also enable your S Class 2 cutter to read registration marks, and achieve the perfect cut at a faster pace – even when there are print deformations.
